What are the Swimming ‘Milestones’ for my child and at what age?
At Superfish, we believe in these strong swimming milestones for Australian children:
By 3yrs (or younger!)
- Float independently +
- Swim and roll into a ‘face up’ float +
- Swim back to a side from a ‘fall in’ and climb out of a pool.
By 5 yr olds (or starting Grade 1)
- Float independently for 30+ seconds
- Swim and roll into a ‘face up’ float
- Swim back to a side from a ‘fall in’ and climb out of a pool +
- Swim 25m Freestyle confidently
- Independent Treading Water for over 1min.
By 10 yrs old
- Float independently for 1 minute plus
- Swim and roll into a ‘face up’ float
- Swim back to a side from a ‘fall in’ and climb out of a pool +
- Increased Swim of 400m Freestyle confidently
- Independent Treading Water for over 1min.
Until your child can reach these skills by the recommended age (or younger) Superfish DO NOT consider children strong swimmers. Use these guidelines to make sure your child is safer around water.
