Milestones – strong swimming skills for the rest of their life

how do you know that your child will have strong swimming skills for the rest of their life?

Part seven of our educational series with Andrew Baildon OLY

Milestones: how do you know that your child will have strong swimming skills for the rest of their life?

To begin, all children need to have strong water safety skills ideally before preschool.

By the time your child starts year one, they should be able to back float independently, swim and roll into a face-up float, and tread water for over one minute independently.

They should also be able to swim so confidently for 25 meters.

By the time your child is 10 to be considered a strong swimmer, they should have these skills.

A combination of independent treading water and back floating confidently for over a minute and they should be able to swim a strong 200 meter freestyle.

If your child can’t hit these milestones at Superfish, we don’t consider them to be strong swimmers. For more information, talk to our team:
